Forest Garden Shovelstrode is an eco retreat offering luxury camping accommodation in 2 traditional Yurts and 4 rustic Log Cabins within a tranquil ancient woodland for people looking for a more relaxed setting immersed within nature.

Charles and Lisa are passionate about the environment, living more self-sufficiently and lowering our carbon footprint. The centre-piece is a Forest Garden, an ecological system which uses the principles of permaculture to grow a myriad of useful, and mainly edible, plants within the 7 layers of the canopy. Much of the food grown is served at the Forest Garden Cafe. Lisa’s full English Breakfasts and traditional Tea Parties are a big favourite with guests!

Regular educational courses offered include Green woodworking, Clay Oven building, Introduction to Bee Keeping and making candles and beauty products with beeswax. Group activities and courses can be arranged and tailored to your group’s requirements and budget.

Therapies and treatments including massage and reiki can be arranged for guests either in their yurt/cabin, or outdoors in the magical woodland. Guests will enjoy the benefits of Shinrin-Yoku (Forest Bathing) which helps with stress, anxiety, sleep and also the body’s production of Natural Killer (NK) cells that help fight cancer. Forest guide Helena Skoog is available to introduce you to the restorative process of Shinrin-Yoku.

Each Yurt or Cabin is equipped with a double bed and an additional sofa bed, sleeping 4 in shared beds. Idaho Cabin has an additional banquette (double) which can sleep an extra 2 and Savannah Yurt has an additional single sofa bed (sleeping 5 in total). Extra person supplements apply. There is a toasty wood burner inside, and outside is a BBQ, open fire pit and seating area for toasting marshmallows under the stars.
