Description
Woodchester Mansion is a house like no other. It is an unfinished Gothic Revival house hidden in a secluded Cotswold valley.
Visitors can walk through the shell of the building and see the bare bones of the construction, a quite different and unique experience to viewing a finished property with fine furniture and paintings.
Guests can also find out about the family and the architects who built the Mansion, and discover why it was never finished.
The quality of the craftsmanship in the local limestone is outstanding. Visitors can admire the splendid gargoyles and the roof bosses in the chapel inspired by the plants in the surrounding valley, and children can spot the many carved animals.
Guest can also visit the tea-room Open 11am – 4:30pm on days when house open. Tea, coffee, cakes, sandwiches, light lunches and cold drinks.
Visitors can also walk in the beautiful Woodchester Park with its chain of lakes and children’s trail. The park is owned by the National Trust; the Mansion is not NT.
The Mansion is open from the 3rd April – 1st November 2020, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays, 11am – 5pm. Last admission to house 4pm. Guided tours are usually available at 11:45am and 2:30pm.
