What's the difference between Camping & Glamping
Other the last decade the definite ‘buzz word’ in the travel community is Glamping.Â
In this blog we want to explain to you the key differences between traditional Camping & Glamping.Â
Firstly, some definitions:
Glamping – Short for glamorous camping.
Camping – the activity of spending a holiday living in a tent.Â
The Tent
Typically with Camping you arrive at your destination with the expectation that you will need to erect your own tent.Â
With Glamping guests arrive with their accommodation already erected, typically a more sturdy, permanent structure such as yurt, wooden pod or bell tent.Â
Sleeping
Unless you pack a blow up mattress with you, camping means going back to basics and sleeping with a roll out mat and sleeping bag.Â
Glamping means you get to sleep in a proper bed, with mattress, pillow and duvets.Â
Facilities
When camping you will need to bring your own cooking appliances with you, including camping stove and water barrels to bring back to your tent. Nowadays most sites provide communal washing up areas to make it slightly easier. Some more advanced campsites also offer communal cooking facilities and even fridges to store your items. Otherwise be sure to pack your own cool box!Â
Glamping facilities can vary depending on the site, but typically guests wills enjoy (basic) cooking facilities per accommodation unit, providing running water, gas stove, electrical kettle etc.Â
Keeping Warm
For many the charm of Camping comes from wrapping up warm, and donning bed socks as the Great British weather does its thing. As unfortunately there is no central heating within your canvas tent.Â
Glamping often guests get to enjoy a wood burning stove within their accommodation … but be warned run the fire too hot and you may need to sleep with the door open (talking from experience)Â
Toilets and Showers
Camping is synonymous with a wash bag in one arm, toilet roll in the other and a towel thrown over your shoulder. Camping sites offer communal toilet and shower blocks for the whole site.Â
I must clarify that some Glamping facilities also offer communal facilities. But nowadays we are seeing a trend of Glamping sites offering private facilities connected to your accommodation.Â
Children and animals
Both Camping and Glamping are ideal for big families holidays, giving your the flexibility to bring all the family (even your four legged member!).Â
There is no better sight than watching your children run around in open space playing outdoor games, whilst your dog tries to intercept the ball!Â
Conclusions
Wether you decide to Camp of Glamp, one thing is for sure, both are great ways to get out in the fresh air and connect with nature and your surroundings far more than staying in a cottage or hotel.Â
