Shaftesbury is an unspoilt Saxon market town, set 700 feet up on a hill above the surrounding glorious English countryside and is perfectly located for walking, visiting historic places of interest, exploring the local food produce, relaxing and recharging. Its winding streets of greenstone cottages and buildings are home to ancient pubs, excellent restaurants, cafes (including vegan / vegetarian) and independent shops, many of which are linked by secret tunnels. They are all within a minute’s walk of Updown.

The town is central for days out to the Cotswolds and Bath to the north, the Jurassic coast (Broadchurch location) to the south, Stonehenge and Salisbury to the east and Devon and Dartmoor to the west.
The nearest train station is just 4 miles away in Gillingham which is well served by taxis and Shaftesbury is just 2 hours by car from London, Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
